ATI FirePro V8800

ATI FirePro V8800

ATI has come on strong consumer graphics space in recent months. In addition to being first to market with DirectX 11 compatible video cards, triggering technology Eyefinity on the masses and expand their product line in all price significantly, the red team also lays claim to the fastest desktop graphics cards in the world, the Radeon HD 5970. With all the excitement surrounding these new maps for the consumer market, we wondered when professional graphic models arrive. For the uninitiated, a brief summary. Workstation graphics cards are used by a wide range of professionals, such as professionals working in 3D CAD, DCC, broadcast, medical imaging, and financial services. They tend to focus on OpenGL API of choice, as the vast majority of applications opt for it rather than Direct3D, the common API for game graphics to the desktop level. Generally, manufacturers of GPUs make very few changes to their core GPUs for desktop products. Rather, they release a better performance with improved driver and application optimization and workstation validation alone. professional graphics drivers can actually improved performance although very focused tuning workload and specific software environments. Also note that the maps workstation goes through several stages of certification application vendors to ensure compatibility as well. Mainstream game cards simply do not test as vigorously, hence the huge price difference between the two types of cards.
During the summer of 2009, we reviewed ATI workstation flagship graphics card, the FirePro V8750. At the time, we found that it was essentially a V8700 with improved memory capabilities. With the launch of the new FirePro V8800 and its new GPU architecture, we expect to see an improvement much more than simple memory upgrade. As you guessed, the V8800 is the equivalent workstation for the Radeon HD 5870. It sports the RV870 GPU with 1600 shader processors, but also offers 2 GB of GDDR5 memory at 1150MHz control. This is the 3D map pros have been waiting impatiently and finally ready for prime time. Read more we take the all-new FirePro V8800 a tour to see how fast it really is.
